Policeman killed in explosion

By Asanga Warnakulasuriya

One sub police inspector was killed and two others were injured yesterday in a bomb blast in Parakramapura, 8 km from the Padaviya police station. Among the other two injured were a policeman and a civilian.

The policemen were on duty when the bomb went off around 7.40 am yesterday. Police are yet to make any arrests.

A shooting incident in Slave Island had left two dead and one seriously injured. The incident took place in the second floor of Ratnagiri Hotel, Union Place Wednesday night.

The Police had identified the victims as Roshan, Isuru and Prasanna. They were consuming liquor when an unidentified man had opened fire. Four bullets had entered Roshan's body through shoulders while one bullet had entered Isuru through the head. Prasanne was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit after serious injuries.

Police suspect that an underworld gang is behind this shooting since Roshan is said to have connections with the underworld. Police have yet to arrest the killers. Two locally made pistols were taken to police custody.
