Installation of granite plaque on Saturday First Buddhist research centre

The installation of the inaugural granite plaque at the first Buddhist Research Centre at Pallekele, Kandy will take place on Saturday, November 16 at 2.30 p.m. under the guidance of the Chief Prelates of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy.

The event is organized by Central Region Development Minister Tissa Attanayake at the request of Diyawadena Nilame Neranjan Wijayaratne. Justice, Law Reforms, National Integration and Buddhasasana Minister W. J. M. Lokubandara will unveil the plaque.

The Buddhist Research Centre which is a monument to commemorate 250 years since the establishment of Higher Ordination brought from Thailand (Siam) comprises a Gedigeya which was the rest room of Ven. Upali Thera of Siam who brought higher ordination to Sri Lanka, two hundred and fifty years ago, a Bhikku Ward, and an International Buddhist Seat of Learning with all the modern facilities. It is a joint venture by Thailand and Sri Lanka.

The Thai delegates who arrived in Sri Lanka to participate in the event met Minister Lokubandara to express their delight and informed that they represent His Royal Highness the King of Thailand and the Government and its people who are most willingly cooperating in the sponsorship.They will also offer the "Katina Cheevaraya" to the Sacred Tooth Relic on the 16th at 10.30 a.m.

The delegation included Nissai Vejjaiva - Mr.Rathakit Manathat(D.G.Information), and Mrs. Supasiri Amatayaknl(Director,Cultural Information/foreign).
