Most financial allocations received by the Women's Affairs Ministry are distributed among members of Women's Associations by the Sri Lanka Women's Bureau, through indirect loans for self-employment, Women's Affairs Minister Amara Piyaseeli Ratnayaka said. Addressing a meeting at Udabaddawa Divisional Secretariat Auditorium to distribute loans amounting to Rs. 200,000 among members of Women's Associations in the Udabaddawa Divisional Secretariat area, she added that a woman's individual labour as a housewife immensely affects the family's economy since women are inherently frugal. In addition to the loans, 52 selected housewives were given seeds, seedlings, and agricultural equipment. They were also given a two-day residential training in home-gardening, organised by the Ministry. Udabaddawa Pradeshiya Sabha members Gamini Somasiri and Geetha Kumudini and Divisional Secretary D. L. Wijesinghe also spoke. |
