Loans for women body members

Most financial allocations received by the Women's Affairs Ministry are distributed among members of Women's Associations by the Sri Lanka Women's Bureau, through indirect loans for self-employment, Women's Affairs Minister Amara Piyaseeli Ratnayaka said.

Addressing a meeting at Udabaddawa Divisional Secretariat Auditorium to distribute loans amounting to Rs. 200,000 among members of Women's Associations in the Udabaddawa Divisional Secretariat area, she added that a woman's individual labour as a housewife immensely affects the family's economy since women are inherently frugal.

In addition to the loans, 52 selected housewives were given seeds, seedlings, and agricultural equipment. They were also given a two-day residential training in home-gardening, organised by the Ministry.

Udabaddawa Pradeshiya Sabha members Gamini Somasiri and Geetha Kumudini and Divisional Secretary D. L. Wijesinghe also spoke.
