A special pinkama at the Sanchi Viharaya

A special pinkama will be held at the Sanchi Viharaya in India from November 22 to 24 to mark the 50th anniversary of the setting up of its new vihara Mandiraya. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe offered two Buddha statues, a stock of 1,000 yellow robes and a special cash donation on behalf of the Government to the Sanchi Viharaya at a ceremony at Temple Trees, Colombo yesterday. Here the Prime Minister is seen handing over one of the Buddha statues to Ven. Banagala Upatissa Nayake Thera and Ven. Keeniyawala Palitha Nayake Thera who represented the Maha Bodhi Society at yesterdays ceremony. Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku is also in the picture. A press release by the Media Unit of the Prime Minister’s office said the 1,000 robes were donated to symbolise the ordination of 1,000 Indian nationals in Bombay to coincide with this pinkama.
