A five member armed gang was arrested on Monday by Nittambuwa police in connection with the robbery of a Benz car and jewellery worth over Rs 14 million. The gang armed with three locally made pistols had entered the house of R.M. Jayathilake of Uswewa at around 9.30 pm and had robbed a Benz car worth Rs. 320,000, gold jewellery worth Rs. 1,000,000 and Rs. 100,000 in cash. They had got away in a three wheeler towards Kotavehara. On receipt of the information, policemen at a roadblock at Kotavehera junction had arrested the five suspects. Police found the gold jewellery plus 12 bore cartridges and five rounds of T 56. (AW).
