President seeks report on bus listing

by Rajmi Manatunga

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has decided to request a report from Transport Minister Tilak Marapana on the recent listing of CTB cluster bus companies to the private sector.

Presidential Media Secretary Janadasa Peiris told the Daily News that the decision was made following a discussion between the President and representatives of the Joint Council of Trade Unions (JCTU) at the President's House. The trade union leaders have pointed out the need for transparency and responsibility in the privatisation of state assets and requested the President to intervene in this matter.

They have complained that the bus company listing on October 31 at the Colombo Stock Exchange was 'controversial' and violated rights of CTB employees.
