The Cinnamon Gardens Police yesterday said that pieces of the grenade thrown at Sri Lanka Medical Council President Prof. H.H.R. Samarasinghe have been sent to the Government Analyst for investigation. "We are waiting for his report for further investigations," a police spokesman said. There is speculation that the attack was linked to the SLMC's refusal to recognise degrees of a proposed private medical college, he said. Prof Samarasinghe - who is also the chairman of the Sri Jayawardhanapura Hospital - was out of country when the blast took place in front of his house. No one was injured. Some window panes of the house were damaged. The blast came a few weeks after a petrol bomb attack on SLMC Registrar Prof. A Panditharathna following the SLMC's decision to grant MBBS qualifications in Sri Lanka only to graduates of Medical faculties attached to the Government Universities. |
