by Malimbada group correspondent The Government will upgrade English education in schools to fulfil the aspirations of students and also the expectation of the parents, said Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister, Karunasena Kodituwakku. He was speaking as chief guest at the annual prize giving of Telijjawila Madya Maha Vidyalaya in Malimbada, Akuressa recently. The Minister said "Advanced Level science subject will be taught in English in 60 schools, while 120 schools have been selected to teach three subjects in English above grade six". The Ministry intends to increase the number by 50 in the coming year. The Ministry will also improve Sinhala and Tamil language proficiency of students he said. In addition to the upgrading of English education the Ministry intends to promote Information Technology education for building of the image of students to overcome current challenges, the Minister said. Dr. Kodituwakku said, "I am satisfied with progress made by the Central College Telijjawila and it will be an example to the other Central Colleges". The principal Telijjawila Madya Maha Vidyalaya, P.V.C. Wickremasinghe, Prefects, Nadeesha Lakmali and Shalika Rupasinghe also spoke. |
