Dialog Internet recently launched an innovative service; the Sinhala and Tamil email service, aimed at easing the language barrier.

Dialog Internet's Sinhala and Tamil email service allows the user to type in English and have it automatically translated into Sinhala or Tamil, thus helping those who aren't familiar with English to receive email in the language of their choice. This free service also eliminates the need for a Sinhala/Tamil keyboard as the words typed in English, such as gedera ennaare automatically changed to Sinhala characters. Similarly veettukku wanger will be changed into Tamil characters.

Since its launch the service has met with astounding success, with a massive response from Sri Lankans living here and abroad. A record 409 users have already registered with the service (Sinhala users 312, Tamil users 97). While the total number of registered users consist of 392 resident Sri Lankans and 17 Sri Lankans residing overseas. A total 165 email transactions have already been carried out successfully.

This unique service is especially beneficial to Sri Lankan students overseas who want to email their parents back home in Sinhala or Tamil, businessmen who need to email non-English speaking suppliers or business associates, and the like.
