HNB beat Lanka Bell in second half rally by Chris Dhambarage Hatton National Bank 'B' team staged a superb second half rally to beat Lanka Bell by 65 points to 45 in their Delmege Super League basketball tournament 'C' Division match played at the Otters Aquatic Club courts, yesterday. After having led by a just one point 25-24 at half time Hatton National Bank put up an improved performance in the second half to seal the game and register a convincing victory at the end. Athula Wijesiriwardena led the way with a good contribution of 27 points for Hatton National Bank 'B' while Roshan de Soysa excelled for Lanka Bell with 26 points. In a 'B' Division tournament match Union Assurance scored a rousing 83-62 win over Commercial Bank after having led 37-32 at half time. Aruna Wickremage was the matchwinner for Union Assurance with a contribution of 31 points while C. Buddhika (16) figured in a vain attempt for Commercial Bank. In a 'D' Division tournament match HSBC had the better of Bartleet Group 60-42 after having led 33-23 at half time. Basil Silva did the bulk of the scoring for HSBC with 17 points while Thusith Silva (15) excelled for Bartleet Group. The tournament conducted by the Mercantile Services Basketball Association and sponsored by Delmege Group will be continued today with four more games down for decision. Eagle Insurance will meet Bartleet Group in a 'D' Division fixture while Airport and Aviation will be up against Hatton National Bank 'B' in a 'C' Division encounter. In addition Metropolitan Group will meet Union Bank in a 'D' Division game followed by the 'B' Division clash between Ranawana Security Company and David Pieris Motor Company Limited. |
