Former New Zealand PM to address chairmen of Listed companies A discussion on "The Need for Strong Chairmen to Drive Companies in Pursuit of Wealth Creation" for Chairmen of Listed Companies will be held at the Colombo Hilton today at 5 pm. Rt. Hon. Jim Bolger, former Prime Minister of New Zealand will speak on "Impact of Public Policy on the Private Sector and the need for closer alliances between the Government and the business community". The Rt. Hon. Bolger was Prime Minister of New Zealand from October 1990 to December 1997. During his 25-year career in politics he led the National Party for almost 12-years, was a Minister for 16-years and had three consecutive terms as the country's Head of Government. In 1997 Rt. Hon Bolger was appointed a member of the Order of New Zealand (ONZ), New Zealand's highest honour. From June 1998 to January 2002 he was New Zealand's Ambassador to the United States. Today Rt. Hon. Bolger is the Chairman of New Zealand Post and its subsidiary Kiwi Bank. The welcome address will be delivered by Mahendra Amarasuriya, Chairman, The Task Force on Corporate Governance - Sri Lanka Geoffry Bowes will speak on "Creating Value through Corporate Governance" and Rick Bettle on "Maximising the Board is the Chairman's job". The Panelists are Michael Mack, Chairman, Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, Ken Balendra, Chairman Bank of Ceylon and Property Development Ltd, Ajit D. Gunewardene, Chairman Colombo Stock Exchange, Hiran Mendis, Director General Colombo Stock Exchange, Geoffry Bowes and Rick Bettle. |
