Sri Lanka Telecom to provide new billing system

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) signed an agreement with Convergys Corporation of USA (NYSE:CVG) and Clarity International Limited to provide a new Customer Care Billing Information Systems (CBIS). The new billing system is another significant effort by Sri Lanka Telecom to upgrade and modernise its infrastructure and resources to further enhance its existing services, develop new products and service. The agreement was signed at Ceylon Continental Hotel last Thursday. The local partner of the project is Just in Time (Pvt) Ltd.

Phase One of the new billing system will go live for ADSL, Internet and other data service users. Phase Two to be introduced in June 2003 will be for Sri Lanka Telecom corporate customers and residential customers will have their new billing facility in August 2003.

"The new billing and customer care service will facilitate Sri Lanka Telecom to get closer to its customers in meeting customer confidence and will also provide accurate billing information. We are looking at various market opportunities and synergies in making Sri Lanka a global hub of the telecommunications sector, said Thilanga Sumathipala, Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom.

S. Anan, CEO of Telecom said that "Sri Lanka Telecom has taken a vital step in introducing the CBIS new billing system which will enhance the competitiveness and it will also provide more clarity. "I am happy to note the rapid development achieved by Sri Lanka's telecommunications industry within a short period of time," he said.

Stepen Newton, President of Convergys EMEA outlining the role played by Convergys in the global telecommunications sector said that Telecom is heading for a new era in offering better customer-care service and added that Telecom is the first customer to obtain its service in the region.

The new billing system provides tailor-made solutions for different customer needs due to flexibility and its ability for integration.

Jith Warnakulasuriya, Chairman Just in Time Pvt Ltd, Shanthi Kumar President Asia Clarity International, Theo Baker, CEO Powelan, Jim Dahamas, Senior Vice President, Convergys Asia Pacific and others were present.
