Expo Aviation to fly new Antanov aircraft to Jaffna

Expo Aviation will fly a new Antonov 24 RV aircraft to Jaffna this week replacing their 97 seater Illusion aircraft. The airline is also planning to go international.

Manager Airline In-flight Services and Passenger Handling, Expo Aviation Ltd, Seraj Mohammed said that the new aircraft has already arrived and it would operate its first commercial flight to Jaffna this week. "We are awaiting approval from the Department of Civil Aviation to commence operating this aircraft. When this 48-seater aircraft is operational the company will terminate the lease on the present Illusion aircraft."

He said that the new aircraft will have the capacity for two classes, Select and Economy. Mohamed said that the fare difference between the two classes would be around Rs. 1,500. "This is the first and only domestic airline to operate two classes."

He said that Expo Aviation operates six morning flights to Jaffna daily excluding Sunday and said that with this aircraft the airline is hoping to introduce three evenings flights a week.

He also said that acquiring this aircraft would be a stepping stone for their plans to go international. "We have the capacity to fly to any destination and we are keen on operating in the SAARC region first." "Our future plans include Float Plane operations, flight training schools, large aircraft over haul facility and international Passenger Operations."

He said their crew consists of Russian plots and former SriLankan airline staff who are totally focused and committed to provide excellent service to air travellers."

Expo Aviation which was the first airline in Sri Lanka to be certified as an operator meeting all the international requirements for an airline commenced their international Cargo airline in 1997.

The airline commenced their domestic flights to Jaffna on June 1. Expo Aviation is a member of Expo Lanka Group which has 43 subsidiary companies. SS
