Premier trophy cricket

Herath guides Moors to victory

Skipper Rangana Herath produced a superb all round performance to lead Moors Sports Club to a convincing 184 run outright win over Galle CC on the third day of their Premier championship cricket match concluded at Braybrooke Place yesterday.

Herath first hit an unbeaten 71 and pulled his side from a middle order collapse by putting on 118 runs for the unfinished ninth wicket with Nandika Ranjith who remained unbeaten on 50. The left arm spinner then captured 4 for 32 as Galle CC were shot out for just 85 runs while chasing a victory target of 184 runs.

Moors SC: 273 and 185 for 8 decl (Rangana Herath 71 n.o, Nandika Ranjith 50 n.o, D. Lokuhettige 3 for 54, N. Kulasekera 4 for 70)

Galle CC: 189 and 85 (D. Sudarshana 22, C. Buddhika 29, Rangana Herath 4 for 32, Nilantha Cooray 3 for 20)

Mudalige shines for CCC

Chamikara Mudalige returned career best figures of nine wickets for 111 as CCC outplayed Panadura SC outright by seven wickets on the third day of their Premier championship cricket match concluded at Panadura yesterday.

Panadura SC were dismissed for 226 runs in their second innings leaving CCC a victory target of 193 runs. CCC in reply scored 194 for 3 with Pubudu Seneviratne and Michael van Dort completing half centuries.

Panadura SC: 214 and 226 (Chamikara Mudalige 9 for 111)

CCC: 247 and 194 for 3 (Pubudu Seneviratne 67, Michael van Dort 50, Anushka Polonowita 36 n.o)

Marians win

Ruchira Palliyaguru stroked a superb 62 with eight fours as Chilaw Marians SC beat Moratuwa SC on the first innings in their Premier championship cricket match concluded at Katunayake yesterday.

Moratuwa SC: 237 and 36 for no loss

Chilaw Marians SC: 275 for 9 (R. Palliyaguru 62, I. Muthalib 36, C. Sylvester 25, J. Gunaratne 26, A. Perera 30, Chaminda Hathurusinghe 3 for 53, S. Perera 2 for 54, P. Salgado 2 for 30).

Bloomfield on first innings

Bloomfield had to be satisfied with first innings points as the third day of their Premier championship cricket match against Air Force SC was washed out due to a water logged outfield at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Bloomfield: 226 and 154 for 6

Air Force SC: 125

No Decision

Kurunegala YCC and BRC figured in a no decision as rain washed out the third and final days play in their Premier championship cricket match at the Welagedera Stadium yesterday. Not a ball was bowled on the second day too and BRC had scored 117 for 3 in their first innings on day one.

Ragama on first innings

Upul Fernando hit a fine knock of 121 and figured in a second wicket stand of 161 runs with Dhammika Premadasa as Ragama CC took major honours in their Premier championship cricket match against Sebastianites SC concluded at the De Soysa Stadium, yesterday.

Ragama CC: 248 and 373 (Dhammika Premadasa 93, Upul Fernando 126, D. Ranatunga 26, D. V. Gunawardena 68, S. Peiris 26, Abdul Jabbar 4 for 51, Amal Dalugoda 3 for 88)

Sebastianites SC: 208.
