Muslims can engage in cultivations unhampered - LTTE Karuna

Muslims and Tamils in the East can carry on their agricultural activities free from any obstruction. In case they face any problems, immediate steps will be taken to solve them, said LTTE head for Eastern Province V. Muralitharan (Colonel Karuna) in Bangkok on Friday (01/10).

Tamils occupying lands owned by Muslims or Muslims occupying lands of Tamils should evacuate such premises immediately. These lands should also be handed over to the proper owners. This procedure will be implemented as from the present harvesting season, Karuna said.

Karuna made these revelations in an exclusive interview to our sister paper Thinkaran Vaaramanjari last Friday.

We had wide range of talks on problems faced by Eastern Muslims. Matters on how to strengthen Tamil-Muslim relationship were also taken up in these talks. I also had talks with SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem as to how we can implement the pact entered into between Prabhakaran and Hakeem. Muslims in our areas should live as freely as that of Tamils. These two communities should live both amicably and unitedly free from any obstacles. Their security also must be guaranteed.

Talks were also held on the steps to be taken to ensure no repetition of unfortunate incidents that took place recently.

Some vicious elements are bent on creating troubles between Tamils and Muslims. This cannot be allowed. These elements are trying to use the peace talks as a platform for their political activities, Karuna added.
