by Maskeliya group correspondent A large sum of funds will be allocated for the development of the education in plantation schools from the budget next year and scholarships will be awarded to the students from poor families who are unable to enter University for higher studies, said Minister of Community Development and Deputy Minister of Irrigation and Water Management and President of Up-country People's Front P. Chandrasekaran when addressing an award ceremony held at Sri Manikkapillaiyar Temple Hall, Hatton. The ceremony organised by the Higher Education Centre, Hatton was held to distribute awards to students who were selected to enter University from the plantation sector. The ceremony was led by P. Sathivel, Director of the Centre. The Minister said that he is prepared to join any organisation and work towards the betterment of the up-country Tamils. The Up-country People's Front is dedicated to serve the up-country plantation working community from its inception. The plantation students have to compete with the students of towns and cities for higher studies. As far as the Central Provincial Council is concerned the Education Minister V. Radhakrishnan is doing an immense service. I am willing to join him and work for the progress of the plantation community, he said. Central Provincial Councillor Sivalingam, Member of Central Provincial Council Rajakulendran and Assistant Director of Education and CIDA Co-ordinator N. Balasundaram were present. |
