by Nadira Gunatilleke Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodithuwakku has decided to preserve the Kandy sacred city located around Sri Dalada Maligawa. The preservation will be done illustrating the indications of the ancient historical Kandyan kingdom, a Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Ministry spokesman said. He said that the Minister inspected the historical palace which belonged to the former Sinhala King Shri Wickrama Rajasinghe in order to preserve following a request made by Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijayeratne. At present the carvings, furniture and wood on the palace roof is in a dilapidated state. The Minister informed Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijayeratne that the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is also concerned about the project and promised to commence rehabilitation work as soon as possible after identifying the relevant places. The project which is to commence next year will be funded by the Archaeological Department.
