Mother appeals on daughter's behalf for help

M.M. Gunawathie (41) of Seerangoda, Thambagalla in Kurunegala District a dumb woman with a congenital deformity in her hands and legs has been restricted to a wheel chair all her life unable to even attend to her daily routine without some one's help.

Her mother M.M. Lucyhamy says that she and her husband looked after Gunawathie all these years but they are unable to provide her the same attention and care as before because they are both old and infirm and in a grave economic plight. Their only income is the Samurdhi assistance they receive and whatever hand out given by benefactors which are few and far between.

They live in a dilapidated house with a badly leaking roof and they have a time moving their daughter from one corner to another during heavy rains.

Lucyhamy says all three of them have now become a burden on their eldest daughter who is in a worse plight unable to meet her own family needs. She says some form of assistance from philanthropists and the general public to cater to the needs of her disabled daughter would be most welcome at this critical time.

Contributions should be remitted to account number 1-031085-2 at the Bank of Ceylon, Hiripitiya Branch which has been opened in Gunawathie's name.
