New CEO at Bogawanthalawa Plantations Sarath Fernando joined Bogawanthalawa Plantations Ltd., (BPL) as its Chief Executive Officer in succession to outgoing CEO, Gayan Samarakone. Before joining BPL Fernando was the Director/General Manager of Royal Ceramics Group of Companies, one of the leading home grown ceramic manufacturers. Fernando who has knowledge and skills by functioning in different capacities in different areas of business locally and overseas commenced his professional career with Elasto Company Bentota - once a leading rubber products manufacturer. He had also been associated with the rubber manufacturing trade for a considerable period. His first exposure to the business and plantation environments was as a team leader of Auditing and Accounting through the then Turquand Young and Co. (now Ernst and Young). In that capacity he streamlined the accounting system of Bogawanthalawa estate. Having worked for twelve-and-a-half years in Trelleborg Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., in different capacities as Accountant, Finance Manger he rose to the position of General Manager (Finance and Administration). Fernando holds a degree of Master of Business Administration from the Postgraduate Institute of Management Sri Jayawardenapura University, and he is a fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK. He is also an alumnus of the London School of Accountancy and Sri Jayawardenapura University. Sarath, a product of S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia, was a keen sportsman during his school days. |
