Kumble claims five as Windies crumble MADRAS, India, Wednesday (Reuters) - India leg-spinner Anil Kumble grabbed his 20th five-wicket haul in tests to skittle West Indies for 167 on the first day of the second test on Thursday. Kumble, celebrating his 32nd birthday, ripped through the Caribbean batting with four wickets for 10 runs in a lethal third spell on a newly laid pitch already taking considerable spin. He finished with five for 30 to expose the Windies' batsmen's weakness against spin after the tourists won the toss and elected to bat. Skipper Carl Hooper's breezy 35 was the highest score as his team were dismissed for under 200 runs for the third straight time. Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh took 3 for 56. West Indies trail 1-0 in the three-test series after losing the first match in Bombay by an innings and 112 runs. In reply, India reached 31 for no loss from eight overs at the close, with Virender Sehwag on 23 with Sanjay Bangar on six. WEST |
