News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Marapana to meet SLMC Defence Minister Tilak Marapana will meet representatives of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) next week in a bid to address the security situation in the Eastern Province. The discussions will be held with the participation of Defence Secretary Austin Fernando and other Government authorities, Cabinet Spokesman Prof G. L. Peiris said yesterday. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be associated himself with the discussions. The Government has also decided to appoint a Peace Ombudsman for the Eastern Province to deal with the grievances of residents before they assume serious proportions. This will be followed by the establishment of a continuous mechanism comprising respectable citizens such as religious leaders to look into the problems of the region. MF\RM |
