"These three members will appear before a disciplinary committee today. If they are found guilty I have no hesitation to sack them from the Party because I have to maintain the discipline of the Party", Kapukotuwa said. He said that members of every party has disagreement over certain issues. It is natural. But they should not come before public and embarrass the Party, he added. But these three members have voted against their own Mayor's motion joining with the opposition. It is a severe breakdown of the party discipline, Kapukotuwa added. The motion was for a project to provide round the clock health facilities within the Kotte Municipal limits operated by the private sector. Three UNP members, Premalal Athukorala, Siripala Cooray and Jayantha Hemasiri voted with the opposition against the motion. The UNP Kotte Balamandalaya at a special meeting convened on Tuesday passed an unanimous resolution calling for the expulsion of the three members from the Council. |
