by Sarath Malalasekera The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday told the Colombo Additional Magistrate J. R. Dissanayake that they have recorded the statement of Ravi Wettasinghe. The CID is investigating into a complaint made by Shirani Anoma Wettasinghe Dullewa alleging that her brother Ravi Wettasinghe cheated her for a sum of Rs. 3.5 million on shareholdings in Electro Holiday Resort Pvt, Limited. In his statement Ravi Wettasinghe told the CID that he will pay a sum of Rs. 500,000 at the end of this October, to the complainant Shirani Dullewa. The CID told court that the investigations into the complaint is not completed and moved for a date to file a further report. When the case was called yesterday before the Magistrate, Gamini Kirinda, Counsel for Dullewa told the court that his client and her son had received several death threats. The Magistrate said that if there is any death threats to complain to the CID. The Colombo Additional Magistrate earlier allowed an application by the CID to peruse the bank accounts of Ravi Wettasinghe. The CID also requested Court to impound the passport of Ravi Wettasinghe until the completion of investigations. A number of cheques given by Ravi Wettasinghe to Dullewa said to have bounced as there had not been sufficient funds to the value of Rs. 35 lakhs. The case was put off for January 30, on an application by the CID. |
