Ampara district water supply scheme 2nd stage

The second phase of the water supply scheme for the coastal area of the Ampara district is to be launched shortly. This scheme will be launched at a cost of Rs. 7176 million. The Australian Government has granted loan facilities to undertake this project. The loan agreement was signed at Finance Ministry recently, Private Secretary to the Minister of Ports Development, Shipping, Eastern Development and Muslim Religious Affairs, M. T. Hasan Ali told the 'Daily News'.

The water supply scheme for the coastal area of the Ampara district was started in 1999 on 23.10.1999, this project was inaugurated ceremonially in Sainthambaruthu and Karaithivu by late Minister M. H. M. Ashraff. According to finance policy of the present government, the Australian government financial aid is to be provided for this second phase through the Central Bank by Australia-New Zealand (ANZ) city bank on the basis of loan scheme. This loan will be released with the approval of the Treasury. This loan will be released in two stages. At first stage, a sum of Rs. 5,022 million will be granted while 2,154 million rupees will be granted as second stage, Hasan Ali said.

This project is a distance of 238 km. After the completion of this project, 12 million gallon capacity of water can be supplied per day, it's reported. By this project, three communities of people who are residing in the villages of Nintavur, Oluvil, Palmunai, Addalaichenai, Deegavapy, Akkaraipattu, Pandiruppu, Pallikudiruppu, Ali Nagar, Alayadivembu, Maruthamunai, Nilavanai, Thuraineelavanai, Addappallam, Irakkamam, Varippaththanchenai, Uduvil, Damana, Muhangala, Hingurana, Uhana, 21st mile post, Veeragoda, Komarigama, Tissapura, Udayapura, Navithanveli, Centralcamp, Malwatte, Valaththapitty, Kanapathypuram, and Natpittymunai will benefit.
