Outstation athletes shine on day one

Outstation athletes dominated the opening day of the National School Games track and field events worked off at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

In the boys under 19 javelin throw final Nimesh Indudunu of Sri Rahula MV Matara cleared a distance of 60.34 metres to win the title. Gaya Darshani of Dharmapala MV Beliatte won the girls under 21 discus final with a good performance of 33.39 metres. S. B. Prasadhi of Holy Family Convent, Wennappuwa came first in the girls under 17 long jump with an effort of 5.57 metres.

Arjun Madushanka of De Mazenod College Kandana clinched the boys under 21 javelin throw final clearing a distance of 56.96 metres. Another athelete from De Mazenod College Charith Perera took the boys under 15 shot putt final with a performance of 12.42 metres. In the boys under 15 long jump final Sashika Dishan of Royal College came first with 6.17 metres.
