PA seeks explanations from six MPs

The PA high command will call for explanations from the six PA MPs who were not present at voting time in Parliament on Thursday, Chief Opposition Whip Mangala Samaraweera said.

He was responding to a question posed by a journalist at yesterday's PA media briefing where the opposition claimed that the Government has lost its majority in Parliament on the basis that only 108 Government MPs voted for the Electricity Reform Bill.

The journalist asked Samaraweera how he would account for the missing 10 PA MPs at the vote.

Samaraweera said of the 10 MPs, 3 have gone abroad and another member had obtained leave on the approval of the PA. But he said the absence of the 6 MPs were due to their carelessness and not because of any disciplinary matter or policy decision within the party.

" These 6 MPs will also be with the PA in its hour of need. But we will ask the 6 MPs to show cause for their absence."
