Gold medals for 40 top students

Forty students who obtained the highest marks at this year's GCE Advanced Level examination will be awarded gold medals by the Ministry of Education.

The selection has been made on the basis of 10 each from the four streams, bio science, physical science, arts and commerce.

Presentation will be made at the 118th birth anniversary celebrations of late Dr. C. W. W. Kannangara, the father of free education, to be held at the BMICH, Colombo on October 13 at 10 a.m. under the patronage of Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku, an Education Ministry spokesman said.

He said the Ministry will make these awards to appreciate the skills shown by these students who had made maximum use of free education and to encourage others to follow suit. The 40 students selected represent 27 schools countrywide.

School Education Minister Suranimala Rajapakse and several other Ministers and Parliamentarians representing the Colombo District will also attend the ceremony.
