Commission recommends Supreme Sangha Council

Today there are about 2770 Dasa Sil Matas in the country and 756 Aramas exist countrywide.

Recommendations have been made in the Buddhasasana Commission report to establish a `Supreme Sangha Council' to handle all the matters related to Buddhist bhikkus and to issue a special valid identity cards to the Buddhist bhikkus in order to identify real Buddhist bhikkus and the pretenders, Ven.Dr.Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Thera said. He was delivering an Anusasana at a conference held in connection with the social services of Dasa Sil Matas took place at the Public Trustee's Department Auditorium, Colombo 7 yesterday.

The conference was organised by the Women's Affairs Ministry. Ven.Kusaladhamma Thera said that the commission made several recommendations after studying the plight of Dasa Sil Matas.
