Death of Raheman Hathy A. Raheman M. Hathy, a former stalwart of the Board of Control for Cricket in Ceylon (BCCC later known as BCCSL) passed away on Tuesday night after a brief illness. Hathy who died at the age of 85, served as honorary treasurer of the BCCC for 16 years from 1957 and was responsible for pulling the controlling body for the game out of dire financial difficulties they experienced during the time. A chartered accountant by profession he was always a unanimous choice for the post of treasurer. He first came into Cricket Board administration as secretary to president Lt. Col S. Saravanamuttu in 1956-7. The following year he became the treasurer when Robert Senanayake was elected president. Hathy served his entire term in the capacity of treasurer under Senanayake. Hathy did not seek re-election in 1973-74 and was appointed a trustee of the Cricket Board in 1974. A product of Zahira College, Colombo, he was also a former president of the Moors Sports Club which he continued to serve for a long time, a senior member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and chairman of the executive board of the Maradana Mosque. His funeral took place yesterday. S.T. |
