Since entering the Sara Trophy the major tournament in 1956, Moratuwa SC was named Giant Killers beating all of Colombo's leading clubs.

The Club was demoted to Div Two seven years ago due to mismanagement by the then authorities. H. T. De Soysa and then formed the Moratuwa Sports Club way back in 1941.

He further said that the Club is very much grateful to the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka for having given full monetary aid to make this venture a success. Moratuwa SC is led this year again by the Former Moratu Vidyalaya and Best Outstation Schoolboy Cricketer, Lucky Rogers Fernando.

He has Dhammika Rajapakse as his Deputy. The side includes last year's Vice Captain Mangala Jayasena, Best Bowler in Sara Season last year Chandika Hathurusinghe, Amal Wanigasekara, Ashan Ranaweera, Sudeep Perera, Chandrika Niroshan, and has newcomers Primal Salgado, Heshan Thillakaratne, Ikram Abdeen, Sanjaya Rajapakse, Sagara Kumara amongst others. Samson De Mel has been appointed as Manager and Physical Training Instructor. The President said that he has confidence in all his players to make this season too a successful one and appeals to all members of the club to be at matches throughout the season to encourage the team.
