Joint opposition alliance against privatisation

by Uditha Kumarasinghe

Opposition political parties yesterday formed an alliance named "Joint organisation for protecting national resources and people's rights" to protest against the Government's privatisation process and amend labour laws.

They reached this decision at a discussion at Opposition Leaders Office represented by Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse, JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa, Sihala Urumaya National Organiser Champika Ranawaka and the members of MEP, Communist and Samasamaja parties. In addition over 100 trade unions also attended the meeting.

The alliance will conduct a demonstration opposite Ceylon Electricity Board and People's Bank on October 8 at 12.00 noon.
