by Kuliyapitiya group correspondent The Kuliyapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha September monthly meeting lasted only 21 minutes as Chairman Sarath Dayawansa Narasinghe (UNP) put off sittings paying no heed to the protests by members of either party stating that he had other duties to attend. The sittings resumed at 10.30 a.m. and the minutes of the previous meeting was adopted without proposing amendments. Chairman: "I have several other duties to attend. So the sittings of the Sabha is put off." Sirisena Herath (PA): "We come here only once a month and formulate solutions to the people's problems. We are deprived of that right by the Chairman putting off the sittings." Manoj Premaratna (PA): " The Chairman should give top priority to the Sabha's affairs not to the other duties. If the Chairman wanted to go the Vice Chairman can conduct the meeting. He is present today." M. N. Nazeer (UNP): "If the Chairman has other duties he should have summoned the meeting on another day. The putting off the sittings is a prejudice to the people. It is unreasonable." At this stage a few ruling party members collectively expressed their protest against the postponement of the sittings. While the ruling party members were protesting the chairman left the chair. The members protested for another few minutes and left. |
