Heavy rains but still no water

Heavy rains which lashed across Gurudeniya, Tennakumbura and Haragama areas on Saturday afternoon broke a spell of drought in the areas.

The pipe-borne water supply to many areas in Gurudeniya by the Kandy Municipal Council through the local authority of the area Kandy Four Gravets and Ganga Wata Korale Pradeshiya Sabha still appears to be a major issue.

Some areas in Gurudeniya have received water only for two days from September 8 to 28.

Some residents get water through private bowsers paying large sums of money.

The worst affected are the working public who after a hard day's work are compelled to walk long distances looking for drinking water.

Anti-malaria campaign

Arrangements have been made by the Anti-Malaria Unit of Galewela Health Service Director's office to launch a Malaria eradication programme in the area.

Accordingly the use of anti-malaria drugs in stagnant pools which are located along the natural water ways to destroy the mosquito-larvae have been started by the anti malaria unit.
