The Australian cricket coach John Buchanan and assistant coach Tim Neilson visited Jaffna on September 20 to conduct coaching sessions with local teams and their coaches. They trained with the Jaffna under-18 team and children from schools in the Jaffna peninsula. The coaches are here with the Australian cricket team for the ICC champions Trophy. The visit to Jaffna was organised by the Australian High Commission in Colombo. "Cricket is an important shared interest for Australia and Sri Lanka," said australian High Commissioner, David Binns. We see this visit as an opportunity to help promote the development of cricket in Jaffna, which has been isolated from national competition in recent years as a result of the ethnic conflict". |
