A seminar on World Class Manufacturing organised by the Department of Textile & Clothing Technology of the University of Moratuwa will be held at the JAIC Hotel on October 2 from 3 pm to 6 pm. The Multi Fibre Arrangement (MFA) that governs the distribution of quotas to all countries will be totally dismantled by the end of 2004 and the industry will face stiff global competition. Sri Lanka's garment industry is at a crucial state where measures will have to be taken in order to survive the post MFA era. The seminar will impart knowledge on basic characteristics of world class manufacturing such as high flexibility, low inventories, small repair areas, high performance teams, benchmaking and strong leadership. The seminar is specially designed for the apparel manufacturing industry where presenters will be experienced leaders who championed the cause of world class manufacturing in the Apparel Industry. The seminar is aimed at senior management of companies to enlighten them of the importance of applying the principles of world class manufacturing to meet future challenges. This is the first of a series of seminars/courses organised for the apparel industry. |
