Encourage all students to study English: principal

by Malwana group correspondent

Children are the country's wealth. It is the duty of all to encourage and foster children to study English, which must be made available and compulsory to all children to reach world standards. It is the parents' duty to see that children are equipped with an English education, said Lands Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

Addressing the foundation laying ceremony for a new swimming pool at Sapugaskanda Yashida Sho Kanji International School on Wednesday, he said English has become a world language.

"With English knowledge one can travel right round the world and be engaged in many pursuits. This shows the importance of English language," the Minister said.

Dr. Senaratne said the Yoshida English Institute was established to educate Buddhist children in English.

The Minister said children must be sent to montessori schools.

"It is the duty of all to see that montessori education prospers. Hence the aid given by Japan must be used for this purpose," Dr. Senaratne said.

Japan Chief Sanganayaka Ven Banagala Upathissa Thera, Sapugaskanda Yoshida Sho Kanji International School Director Sarath Kumara and Deputy Principal L. Perera also spoke.
