Kim and Noh - golf champions by P. Rajaratnam our Nuwara Eliya Corr. The two Koreans S. S. Kim with a score of 41 points and the Runner-up H. C. Noh with 36 points emerged the winners in the Grand Hotel and SriLankan Airlines Golf classics which concluded recently at the Asia's celebrated Golf Club here. After a spell of several years, a large crowd of spectators were present. In the 'B' Division the winner was M. Richardson with 35 points, while the Runner-up was S. Giffin with 34 points. The Winner of the longest drive was R. Abhayaratne and the closest to the Pin was A. Herath. Unfortunately one of the participants was disqualified in the main event, whose scores were questionable. In the Ladies event, the ever green and one time National Golf Champion and who is known as the Queen of Sri Lankan Golf, Suwenitha Selvaratnam proved her golfing supremacy with a 'Hole' in One at the 13th Hole. The other Ladies golf Results: Elvira Mars 16 points - 20 Stableford, S. Selvaratnam 36 points backward 19, N. Chand 36 points, 18 backward, Longest Drive Kishni Vethanayagam, Nearest to the Pin Mrs. S. Selvartnam, most amount of the birdies N. Chand. In the Novices, Group A 14 holes winner was P. Dias 70, Runner-up S. Wettimuny 77, and the longest drive P. Dias. Group B 9 holes: Stroke Play Winner Aravind Fernando 56 points. Runner-up Sanjiv Fernando 75 points. The youngest of the lot was eight year old S. Fernando, 9 holes gross 75 points - adjudged as the winner. The most notable feature was a number of youngsters participation. Nuwara Eliya looked colourful with all its new attractions and a large gathering of holiday makers during this long weekend were seen here. |
