Missing child found

Police yesterday found two-year-old Thilanka Madushanka, who disappeared while watching the kites festival at the Galle Face Green on September 15.

Police, acting on a tip-off, found the child in a house at Katuwasgoda, Veyangoda, along with his father. The Police surrendered the house and arrested the father.

A person who had seen Madushanka's pictures published in the newspaper had informed the Police that a child resembling him is kept in the house.

Veyangoda Police OIC S.B. Diyakelinawala said the child had been brought to this house from Galle Face with the assistance of another woman. Police investigations have revealed that the suspect (child's father) has rented the house one month ago.

Police said a woman who had a close association with the child's father has compelled him to kidnap the child. The child's mother had complained to Police that while they were watching the kites, her husband had gone to bring ice cream and the child too followed him. When he returned the child was not with him. After that we searched for the child, but did not find him.

On a complaint made by the mother, Colombo DIG Bodhi Liyanage had instructed all police stations to search for the child.
