Enhance noble values of living this Binara - Minister

Buddhists in Sri Lanka enjoy a wonderful time ecclesiastically and nationally on the Binara Pasaloswaka poya day, says a massage released by Minister of Buddha Sasana W. J. M. Lokubandara.

Binara poya dawns halfway in the three months of Vassana, the rains retreat-season our Bhikku sanga started observing on the Nikini poya day Vassana period in ancient Buddhist India emerged on account of incessant rain experienced in Bihar.

We in Sri Lanka too, following the Indian Buddhist tradition observe the Nikini-Binara-Vap poya period as the vassana season and engage in ecclesiastical activity. The poya days offered a grand opportunity for the devotees to enhance their noble values of living. In addition to the regular five-fold ethical conduct, the people enjoy a unique privilege of advancing their path of progress practically on these days.

Thus it is on the poya day that Buddhist with restrained right, word and deeds and with clean and enlightened minds perform meritorious duties.

They refrain a worldly ways, even for a short time to attain higher state of life.

If we aspire to view the poya days in that light, we will certainly be able to make our lives totally profitable. 'Buddha's teaching exhorts all human beings to do good deeds gradually, little by little.
