LTTE sea movement postponed by Ranga Jayasuriya The second LTTE sea movement scheduled for yesterday was cancelled due to rough seas, a Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) spokesman said. "The Navy warned the LTTE of bad weather and Sea Tiger commanders finally decided to put off the journey," SLMM Spokesman Teitur Torkelsson told the Daily News. The LTTE was to transport 170 cadres who were going home on leave from Mullaitivu to Vakarai in four vessels under SLMM inspection. The purpose of the journey, according to the LTTE, was to transport cadres going home on leave and returning to work from leave. According to the government-LTTE deal on sea movement, the Tigers are permitted - under certain conditions- to ferry cadres between the LTTE held areas in the North-East. Torkelsson said the SLMM has not yet been informed of a new date for the sea passage. "We will probably perceive this information today itself," he said. |
