President, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has appointed S. W. B. Wadugodapitiya, President's Counsel as Acting Chief Justice with effect from September 19, 2002 during the absence abroad of Sarath N. Silva, Chief Justice. Justice Wadugodapitiya PC, who holds both a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL B) and a Master of Laws degree (LL M), was elevated to the Supreme Court Bench on January 10, 1991, and has served just under 12 years as a Judge of the Supreme Court. Prior to that Justice Wadugodapitiya served in the Attorney-General's Department for 25 years ending his career there as Solicitor-General and having served as Acting Attorney-General on several occasions. Whilst in the Attorney-General's Department Justice Wadugodapitiya was appointed a one-man Commissioner of the Mossad Commission and also served as a Commissioner of the Law Commission. He is presently a member of the Judges Institute of Sri Lanka, and the Council of Legal Education of Sri Lanka. |
