Trans Asia -TTSC Tennis champs

The Travel Trade Tennis Championships 2002 was held on 9th, 10th & 11th September 2002 at Queens Club, Bullers Road sponsored for the fifth successive year by The Lanka Oberoi.

Chief Guest on the occasion was Steffan Phiffer General Manager - T and O.

Ravi Subramaniam of Aitken Spence Travels retained the Men's open singles title for the 22nd year beating his young opponent from Trans Asia's, U. V. Nishantha in a repeat of last year. Subramaniam now 44, also retained the Veterans (over 40) title for the fourth successive year beating, Camelot Beach Hotel's, P. Upali.

Trans Asia Hotel, who had 03 players in the Open Singles Quarter's and figured in a home and home open doubles final, annexed the overall championship for the first time. Aitken Spence Travels missed the overall championship by a whisker, as Subramaniam was compelled to give a walk-overs in the Men's open. Doubles and Veterans Doubles, due to the absence of his reliable partner, Renuka Hotel's, Ravi Thambiayah, who had to travel abroad unexpectedly. Last year Subramaniam won all four men's titles and the championship for his form as well.
