Sri Lankan national volleyballers in action in Male by N.U. Abdul Razzak reporting from the Maldives Three members of the Sri Lankan national volleyball squad and one player from the Junior National team have been in Male, playing for the two strong division one clubs here in Male the capital of Maldives. They are here on a month long assignment, to play in two major tournaments, the Zone League and the National Volleyball Tournament conducted by the Volleyball Association of the Maldives. The national caps Ravindra Melishan and the junior national player T.C. Adikari will play for Nilandu Youth Sports Club, while the other two national caps K. Lasantha Perera and Y.H. Kapila Duminda will play for the Vaanee Sports Club. In the recently concluded Zone League, Lasantha Perera became the best player, while S.A. Ravindra got the award for the best attacker. Besides the Sri Lankan players, there are three national players from India including the former captain of the sub-continent Ashish Arosha. It is hoped the inclusion of the expatriate players would help the local players to have a competitive game of volleyball, which certainly helps raise the quality and standard of volleyball in the Maldives. |
