Need to translate Encyclopedia of Buddhism into Sinhala, Tamil stressed

Buddhasasana, Justice, Law Reform and National Integration Minister W.J.M. Lokubandara stressed the need to translate the Encyclopedia of Buddhism into Sinhala and Tamil when he received the recently published English edition of the Encyclopedia of Buddhism volume 6 Fascicle No. 4 from its. Editor-in-Chief Dr. W.G. Weeraratne at the Buddhasasana Ministry recently.

Fascicle No. 4 deals with the Letter 'M'. The Minister said language is an important tool in creating national unity and integration and translation of the Buddhist Encyclopedia into Sinhala and Tamil would also go a long way in achieving this objective.

The Minister said his Ministry would provide all support necessary for continuing the translation and publication of the Encyclopedia of Buddhism.

Minister Lokubandara continuing said Buddhism which is based on truth and realism has gained a pre-eminent position in the world today with the advancement of science and technology. He also paid a glowing tribute to the Late founder Editor-in-Chief of the Encyclopedia of Buddhism Prof. G.P. Malalasekara whom he described as a pundit well versed in Greek, Latin, Pali and many other foreign languages.

He said he hoped to solicit the Co-operation of Buddhists throughout the world for the activities of the Buddhist Encyclopedia by convening an International Buddhist Seminar here next year.

Secretary, Ministry of Buddhasasana, H.W.D. Sunil, Public Trustee Sarath Seneviratne and members of the families of late Prof. G.P. Malalasekara and L.T.P. Manjusri also participated.
