SLMM Chief meets Army, LTTE officials by Ranga Jayasuriya The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Chief Gen. Trond Furuhovde on Thursday met Security Forces and LTTE area commanders in Jaffna. He was due to meet LTTE Political Wing Chief Thamilchelvam yesterday in Kilinochchi. "The SLMM Chief met Major General Sarath Fonseka and LTTE Area Commander Colonel Theepan on Thursday afternoon in the zone of separation in Muhamalai to discuss the full implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement," a SLMM Spokesman told the Daily News. The discussions also focused on avoiding disturbance like the one that took place in Point-Pedro. The spokesman said the discussions were constructive, but added that full details on the meeting have not yet reached the Headquarters. His meeting between the SLMM Chief and Thamilchelvam will focus on the overall implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement. Matters regarding LTTE sea movement are also expected to be discussed. "The LTTE claims that it has no hand behind the Point-Pedro incident, but the SLMM hopes that the LTTE can contribute a lot to prevent such incidents," the spokesman said. |
