Azwer heads Puttalam DDC

by Florence Wickramage

Parliamentary Affairs Minister A. H. M. Azwer has been appointed Chairman of the Puttalam District Development Council (DDC), by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

At the first meeting of the DDC, former Minister of Fisheries and Social Welfare Milroy Fernando said with the vast experience gained in Parliament, Azwer's contribution to the development of the Puttalam District would be immense.

Azwer said all must shed political differences and cooperate in launching development programmes in the district.

While stating that development projects should be approved irrespective of political bias, the Minister remembered with gratitude late President Ranasinghe Premadasa who was the first to request him to look after the interests of the Puttalam District.

Azwer also remembered President D. B. Wijetunga for appointing him to Parliament and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for appointing him as head of the Puttalam DDC.
