PA 'pleased' about peace talks

by Uditha Kumarasinghe

The People's Alliance is pleased that the Government began peace talks with the LTTE even at this late stage, PA MP Nimal Siripala de Silva told the PA weekly media briefing yesterday.

"The government should not turn peace talks into a photo session. The discussions should focus on core issues based on a set agenda. But the Government has not yet disclosed the agenda of peace talks to the public," de Silva said.

De Silva told a media briefing that the PA is opposed to lifting the LTTE ban before the peace talks. The PA stance is that the ban would have been lifted on the progress shown during the peace talks.

He said the Government has so far responded to the President's request to nominate one of her representatives for the peace talks delegation. "Discussions conducted without a President's representative cannot be accepted as official."
