by Florence Wickramage The one lakh Jak tree planting programme of the National Jak Development Project (NJDP) of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL - Lake House) reaches stage 6 with the planting of Jak saplings at the Visakha Vidyalaya premises at Vajira Road on Tuesday September 17 at 8 a.m. The NJDP is a Silumina Janasetha programme and is sponsored by the Sevena Lottery. Stage 6 of the programme has been organised by the Teachers and the School Development Society where students will participate in planting jak saplings. In addition arrangements have been made to distribute jak saplings among students. Deputy leader of the United National Party and Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasuriya and Gampaha District Member of Parliament Susil Premajayantha will be the Chief Guests on the occasion. Among others gracing the occasion will be ANCL Chairman Attorney-at-Law Nalin Ladduwahetty, Founder and Director Editorial and Marketing ANCL Bandula Padmakumara, Members of the Director Board of ANCL and Nanda Dias, son of "Kos Mama" Arthur V. Diyes. Special lectures on Jak and Jak related products will be given by Chairman Haritha Mithuro and Member of NJDP Priyadarshana Samankumara and Green Movement Secretary Vasantha Wijewardene. The objectives of the NJDP is to build a healthy nation and be geared to meet any future threat of a famine as predicted by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). |
