Peace rally on Sept 16

The National Anti-War Front is seeking public participation at a special peace rally and prayer session organised by the group to invoke blessings on the historic peace talks in Thailand.

The rally, coinciding with the September 16 talks, will be held at the Independent Square at 6.30 p.m and has been organised to "keep aflame the light of peace when hopes have risen in the hearts of our people that we may find a way to live together as one Sri Lankan family."

"People of Sri Lanka have a fresh opportunity to end the country's two decades old ethnic war and resolve the conflict through peaceful negotiations. It is the earnest hope of all peace loving people that the talks will succeed in a positive outcome," the National Anti-War Front states in a special communique.

The Front states that peace should not be a concern of only the governing political party but "of all political parties and social forces committed to democracy."
