Speaking after opening the newly built Rs. 7 million Divisional Secretariat at Kantale, he said public servants should consider themselves servants of the public and not masters. Earlier, villagers had to go to Kachcheris to obtain their needs, wasting time and money. Thawfeek, UNP organiser Sunil Santha Ranaweera, District Secretary N.P.K. Nelumdeniya and Divisional Secretary S. Piyadasa also spoke. On Friday, Minister of Home Affairs, Local Government and Provincial Councils Earl Gunasekera opened the new building put up in 2000 for the Kachcheri Divisional Secretariat costing Rs. 5 million on request by Trincoamlee District parliamentarians M.A.M.
